SOLVEIG HAUGEN

Haugen is a Swedish-born actress of Estonian-Norwegian descent, with a special interest in and talent for international comedy – the darker the better! Apart from her formal theatrical training at the Los Angeles Performing Arts Conservatory, Solveig’s approach to acting has been greatly influenced by working with legendary acting coach Bathsheba Garnett and mastering her ’Simplicity’ technique. Solveig mainly works in film nowadays. She has lived and worked in the United States, U.K, France and Sweden and also worked in India.

A storyteller at heart and with a background in journalism, Solveig is passionate about research and goes out of her way to get to the truth in each character she plays. She has also ventured into screenwriting and directing.

In 2016, Solveig played a part based on her own mother in ’I Will Knit You A New Mitten When We Reach Sweden,’ a work-in-progress play that premiered at the Malta International Theatre Festival. Solveig also wrote the play and is now developing it into a film script. It’s her own family story full of culture-clashes between Estonia, Norway and Sweden. Solveig believes that laughter can truly be the best medicine, and it is her intention to make a positive impact on the world through her creativity.

I’m an Estonian-Norwegian actress and writer who has also ventured into directing. Born and raised in Sweden, I’ve lived internationally since the age of 20. I speak fluent Swedish, English and French, conversational Spanish and Norwegian, and a little bit of Estonian.

Since graduating from the Los Angeles Performing Arts Conservatory, I’ve done theater, film and TV. A few roles I especially enjoyed playing were Pope Joan in ‘Top Girls,’ the part of my own mother in ‘I Will Knit You A New Mitten When We Reach Sweden,’ and French prostitute Lizette in ‘Paradis.’ I also directed ‘Pippi Longstocking’ as a children’s play in Jaipur, India, which was a truly life changing experience.

I currently spend most of my time between Sweden and Los Angeles       – Solveig Haugen
